Another case of government versus homegrown vegetables

This time it's happening in Oak Park, Michigan where WXYZ TV reports city officials contend it's illegal to plant a vegetable garden in your front yard:

Has it really come down to this? I don't recall DC code enforcement knocking on the White House door when Mrs. Obama planted a plot of vegetables there.

A government attack on a home vegetable garden may say something about how twisted our priorities have become.

The Oak Park intervention by code enforcement apparently came after complaints by neighbors. I'd like to know when  vegetables became objectionable.

Growing food at home used to be seen as a patriotic endeavor. Anyone remember WWII Victory Gardens?

Now it seems, growing vegetables can make you a societal outcast, run up big fines, and maybe even land you in jail.
