The Struggle on Concord Bridge by Alonzo Chappel |
Patriot's Day commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. The British were on the march to search out and seize colonists' stores of arms and ammunition. Local militias turned out to resist the move, resulting in the first shots fired in the American Revolution.
There's an interpretation of the opening clash at Lexington in the 1988 move April Morning. Someone's posted the scene on YouTube.
