The Corn Refiners Association recently asked the FDA for permission to use "corn sugar" as an alternative name for High Fructose Corn Syrup. The FDA said no.
On a related note:
I still drink the regular formula soft drinks. But I increasingly make an effort to buy the Pepsi 'Throwback' varieties that are showing up on supermarket shelves. They don't cost any more than the corn syrup counterparts, but they're made with real sugar. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison, but they seem to taste the same.
I also like the Throwback's nostalgic packaging.
