The Ruger Standard is the granddaddy to today's Ruger Mark III semi-automatic .22 pistol. The Ruger was first produced in 1949, and the ad shown below says nearly 120,000 had been sold by fall 1956. The ad also notes a "substantial" U.S. Army contract had been awarded for the Mark I Target model shown in the ad's lower section.
In 1956, the Ruger Standard model had a suggested retail price that was about ten percent of today's suggested retail on a standard model Mark III.
