A record 2.78 million background checks for gun buyers were conducted in December. A large amount of that business came after the Newtown shootings, and after Dianne Feinstein began squawking about a gun ban. 2.01 million checks were conducted in November.
December would likely have been higher had retailers and distributors not exhausted inventory. Over 900-thousand more background checks were done in December 2012 compared to December 2011.
