I suspect it's way more than one-in-ten.
Gun folk tend to be shy about sharing their practices with pollsters.
BTW: The study deems "loaded and unlocked" as being an unsafe storage practice. I'd say the study is making some assumptions, showing some prejudice there.
You are correct about people being reluctant to answer pollsters about firearms...my favorite phrase when confronted by pollsters is "What you talking about Willis". Most gun owners will dodge the answer.
