ReplyDeleteStalin and his buddies did that on purpose in the 1930's to break the back of anybody that might want to cause "problems" for them. Whole villages in the Ukraine vanished because of the starvation issues, that is why when Hitler initially invaded, he was treated as a "Liberator"
